As Ebola scare cools, officials rush to contain sudden hotspot

Just over a week ago, officials noticed data suggesting an ominous trend: Ebola might be spreading undetected in Sierra Leone's remote diamond mining district of Kono. On arriving there, investigators uncovered a situation even worse than they feared: overwhelmed health workers, shortages of the most basic supplies, a surge in deaths. But this is also a hopeful tale. International organizations and aid groups are now flooding the zone to contain the eruption. And they say this kind of constant vigiliance and rapid reaction will be the key to ending the outbreak.
